Home Sick Home follows one of our three main characters.
It is the introduction of the medicine merchant, and visits several points in his life to illustrate why he has come home.
He is a doctor, formerly confident in medicine but now struggling to make a difference in the impossible fight against the black plague and inevitable death.
She - refers to a dying mother who our doctor came to know and who reminds him of his own dead mother. Seeing her becomes the last straw for the doctor, sending him to his mother's grave to tell her he is giving up.
lyrics
In this terrible wave of scattered souls, taking what they need, frail and scared and slow.
She is not afraid, and patiently stands as I put medicine in her open waiting hands.
Her green eyes, I think I recognize... They lie inside a grave in the shadow of St. James
Coming home, (home sick home)
But is it really home, if everyone who knew your name is dead and gone?
Is it still the same place?
That now I have returned, with medicines abounding, and everything I've learned,... It all amounts to nothing.
I can't save you, but I can help you ease the pain for a while.
I can't fix you, but I can help you ease the pain for a while.
